About Dunham Well Drilling: Polk County's Family-Owned Well Experts Since 1950
When you need a well drilled, a pump repaired, or your water treated in Central Florida, Dunham Well Drilling has been the name neighbors have trusted for 76 years.
A Three-Generation History in the Polk County Aquifer
Dick Dunham founded this company in 1950, and the family has been drilling wells across Polk County and Central Florida ever since. That's not a marketing line — it's a straightforward fact that shapes how we work. Three generations of hands-on experience in the same aquifer system means we've seen the geology, the seasonal quirks, the water chemistry challenges, and the storm damage that comes with living in one of the most lightning-prone regions in the country.
We're based at 1341 42nd Street NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881, and we've drilled and serviced wells across Winter Haven and the surrounding region for decades. Our shop is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and we maintain a 24/7 answering service — always live — so you're never leaving a message with a machine when something goes wrong with your water supply.
What We Actually Do — Full-Service Well and Water Work
A lot of well companies do one thing. We do the whole job. That matters more than it sounds, because well problems rarely stop at a single system.
Well Drilling and Pump Installation
We drill residential, agricultural, and commercial wells across Central Florida — from 2-inch shallow irrigation wells to 4-inch through 8-inch deep wells for drinking water and high-volume use. Every new well job includes site evaluation, casing selection, and pump and pressure tank installation. If you're tired of paying for metered municipal water to run your sprinklers, a shallow irrigation well often pays for itself in a relatively short period.
For pump work, we carry Goulds, Sta-Rite, Grundfos, and Schaefer — both new and used — and we have a full-line machine shop on-site that lets us rebuild pumps and turbines in-house. That's not something most well companies can offer. It means faster turnaround and more repair options before you're looking at a full replacement.
Water Treatment and Filtration
Central Florida well water is hard on fixtures, appliances, and pipes. Sulfur smell, iron staining, and hard water are common complaints across Polk County. We offer water filtration and treatment services that cover:
- Water softeners for hard water
- Iron removal and iron-sequestering systems for staining
- Hydrogen sulfide treatment for that rotten-egg smell
- Chlorination systems for bacterial concerns
We also do on-site water testing so we know what's actually in your water before recommending a system. Most filtration companies don't touch pumps. Most pump companies don't touch filtration. We do both — which means one call, one company, one point of contact.
Lightning Damage, Irrigation, and Well Abandonment
Central Florida leads the country in lightning strikes per square mile, and well systems take hits every season. We handle lightning damage repair to pumps, motors, pressure switches, and irrigation controls — and we work directly with your insurance company on the claim, which is something most contractors leave entirely to the homeowner.
Our irrigation repair and installation work covers controllers, valves, heads, pipes, and pump diagnosis. We keep a warehouse stocked with hard-to-locate irrigation parts, which cuts down on the wait time that kills schedules during dry season.
If you have an unused well on your property, Florida law requires proper abandonment — and there's a state rebate available to offset part of the cost. We file that rebate paperwork on your behalf. Most contractors don't bother; we do it as a matter of course.
Licensed, Affiliated, and Accountable
We're a Licensed Water Well Drilling Contractor and a member of the Florida Ground Water Association (FGWA). Those credentials mean we're held to state standards for every well we drill and every abandonment we complete. New pump and tank installations come with the standard manufacturer's warranty.
We serve Polk County and Central Florida, including Winter Haven, Plant City, Zephyrhills, Kissimmee, and the communities in between.
