Pump Repair & Install

When your well pump stops working, everything stops — no water for the house, the yard, or the livestock — and in Central Florida's heat, that's not a problem you can sit on.
At Dunham Well Drilling, we handle pump repair and installation for residential, agricultural, and commercial properties across Polk County and Central Florida. Whether your jet pump has lost prime, your submersible has gone silent, or a turbine is running rough at a commercial site, our crew has the equipment and the experience to diagnose it fast and fix it right.
What Types of Pumps We Repair and Install
Not every pump shop handles the full range. We do. Our pump repair and installation service covers:
- Residential jet pumps — above-ground pumps common on shallow wells and older homes
- Submersible pumps — the workhorses of most modern drinking-water wells
- Irrigation pumps — sized for the demand of lawn and agricultural irrigation systems
- Turbine pumps — high-volume pumps for commercial and industrial applications
- Centrifugal pumps — used in a wide range of agricultural and industrial settings
- Industrial pumps — heavy-duty applications that most smaller shops won't touch
- Pressure tanks — we install and replace tanks alongside pump work, so you're not calling two different contractors
If the pump connects to a well in Central Florida, there's a good chance we've repaired or installed that exact model.
Our On-Site Machine Shop Sets Us Apart
Most pump companies send failed motors and turbines out to a third-party rebuild shop — which adds days or weeks to your downtime. We run a full-line machine shop right here at our facility in Winter Haven. That means pumps and turbines are rebuilt in-house, on our timeline, not someone else's schedule. For commercial and agricultural customers especially, that difference in turnaround time is significant.
We stock Goulds, Sta-Rite, Grundfos, and Schaefer pumps — both new and used — so we're not waiting on a parts order when you need water today.
Signs Your Well Pump Needs Attention
Central Florida well owners sometimes wait too long because the warning signs are easy to dismiss. Watch for these:
- Low or fluctuating water pressure — can signal a failing pump, a waterlogged pressure tank, or a drop in the water table
- Pump runs constantly — often points to a failed pressure tank bladder or a pump that can no longer build adequate pressure
- No water at all — could be the pump motor, a tripped breaker, a burned capacitor, or a deeper mechanical failure
- Dirty or discolored water — sometimes indicates a pump pulling sediment, which can accelerate wear
- Unusual noises — grinding, clicking, or short-cycling are all reasons to call before the pump fails completely
Don't attempt to diagnose or repair electrical components, pressure tanks, or any part of the well system yourself. The risks — electrical shock, pressure hazards, and contaminating your well — aren't worth it. Call us.
Pressure Tank Replacement: Often Overlooked
A waterlogged pressure tank is one of the most common causes of pump short-cycling, and short-cycling is one of the fastest ways to burn out a pump motor. If your pump kicks on and off every few seconds, the tank is the first place we look. We install new pressure tanks as part of pump jobs or as a standalone service, and new tank installations come with the standard manufacturer's warranty.
Pump Work Across Polk County and Central Florida
We're based at 1341 42nd Street NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881, and we've been serving this area since Dick Dunham founded the company in 1950 — 76 years of drilling and servicing wells in the same aquifer, with the same family name on the door.
Our Winter Haven well service is right in our backyard, but we regularly run crews to Kissimmee, Zephyrhills, Plant City, and everywhere in between. If you're on a well in Polk County or the surrounding Central Florida area, we're your call.
We're also a member of the Florida Ground Water Association (FGWA) and licensed as a Water Well Drilling Contractor — which matters when you're trusting someone to work on the system that supplies your drinking water.
When to Call Us
If your pump is struggling, short-cycling, or dead silent, don't wait. The longer a failing pump runs, the more damage it can do to itself and to the well. And if you're on a drinking-water well that's completely stopped working, that qualifies as an emergency — we have a 24/7 answering service (always live), and calls are returned within 48 hours.
Call Dunham Well Drilling at (863) 965-2881 any time. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, but the answering service runs around the clock. With 76 years in Polk County, a full in-house machine shop, and every major pump brand in stock, we're the shop Central Florida well owners call when the water stops.
